What is Promise Indiana Wabash County?

Students at Promise Indiana Wabash County event

Promise Indiana Wabash County (PIWC), administered by the Wabash County YMCA, seeks to provide every PK-3rd grade student attending school in Wabash County the opportunity to pursue educational dreams through savings, college, and career discovery in the classroom, and on-campus experiences.

SAVINGS: Open a free CollegeChoice 529 Account and the YMCA will deposit the first $25 into that account (Parent/guardian has the option of adding additional funds but is not required to. There is additional opportunity for the student to receive another $25 during Champions Period, September through October every year).

COLLEGE AND CAREER DISCOVERY: College GO! Week (last week of September) is dedicated to helping students find their passion and uncover new dreams. Students are led by teachers, career professionals, and experiments throughout the week to discover different professions and college!

ON-CAMPUS EXPERIENCES: "Walk Into My Future Event" held yearly on the first Friday of October; grades 2nd and 3rd are invited to attend a college campus to explore what it is like to be a college student for a day and learn about college. Every 2nd/3rd grader and teacher/volunteer receive a free t-shirt to wear at the Walk Into My Future Event provided by the Wabash County YMCA. 2nd and 3rd grade students are led by college students through visit stations (run by college students, athletes, employees, volunteers, etc.) that consist of science demonstrations, listening/interpreting music, different sports, learning how to spend/save money, and more!
